“A standing ovation starts with one fool standing up” Van Jones.
21 November 2009
This letter contains:
1) An invitation to act NOW in a creative, fun and easy way to protect the future of our planet.
2) More detail
3) Ways to support this project.
1) The Invitation
We have created a powerful, beautiful and simple way for you to stand up for life on earth and speak out to the climate change politicians in Copenhagen and beyond. It’s time to act. There are no certainties, but we know how much is possible if we all take action.
The project is called ‘6 Billion Reasons’ and it gives you, and all earth’s people, a creative, visual and verbal way to stand up and be counted. Go and look! www.6billionreasons.org
Use it to express yourself. Tell your friends and networks. Help this global wave of energy grow fast to support and push the politicians to find the co-operation, imagination and courage necessary to rise to meet this challenge.
The Copenhagen Climate Change conference begins on the 7th December 2009. So do it now!
The climate change talks are hanging in the balance. The quest rests on a knife’s edge. Your action makes a difference. Lets DO it! Give the politicians your mandate to break out of the paradigm of negotiations which they are (admitting they are) stuck in; to co-operate and work together to find solutions for the good of all our children who share one earth and one climate.
If you use the “add me” button, it takes a few minutes to join this global mosaic with your own message and picture. If you want to go further you can make a video…..sing, dance, speak!
With our love and hope,
Susannah and Ya’Acov Darling Khan, Peter Armstrong and Anuradha Vittachi.
2) More information
The 6 Billion Reasons website as it exists now is only the beginning. It has been created with valiant work from an amazing team of technicians (who have had to create new technology to create this site), goodwill, faith, generosity and the very good use of an early donation of £10,000.
The team we are working with is incredibly well qualified to continue to manifest this dream. For more information on who they are, please go to the about us section of the website.
‘6 Billion Reasons’ can make a real difference. The politicians and decision-makers know the science. They know what needs to be done. But they are finding it difficult to do it, to find the courage, imagination and generosity to shift from the old negotiation paradigm of “Give as little as you can to get as much as you can.” The unprecedented nature of this situation calls for something else. And they need our support to find it.
Michael Zammit Cutajar who will chair the final Copenhagen negotiating session: “I don’t think the capacity to change is found easily in these halls. I am hoping the capacity to change comes in from the outside…..”
Prospect. Nov 2009.
That’s us; all of us. The politicians need to be moved emotionally in order to act and they need us, that’s you and me, to be willing to stand up and be counted. Please take the short amount of time necessary to become part of this offering to the future.

3) Do you want to become a “Friend of 6 Billion Reasons” and support the next steps in realising this vision?
The most important way you can support this project is to use it to upload your own image and message now, and to pass it on to your friends and networks.
And you can support the project with financial input. With more finance now, we will be able to maximize its input at Copenhagen, finding as many ways as possible to bring people’s messages to the attention of the politicians. We need to pay the techies at ‘One Climate’ who right now, in the run up to Copenhagen in December, are working on love, faith and extreme commitment.
Longer term leading up to the peak at the London Olympics, we intend to:
- Translate the website into other languages
- Work with the global mosaic so that it becomes a picture of the world, each pixel of which is one picture or video message. We will invite Chris Jordan (of Sea Dragon fame) work with us on this.
- Work with other climate change organisations (we are already working with 350) to maximize the potency of their messages in way that honours the particular organization and the shared intent
- Work with the musical element so that people in different places and countries can add to each other’s music, creating many global choruses
- Have 6 Billion Reasons messages from people around the world playing in cinemas at the start of films
- To work with the London Olympics to create a compelling vision of humanity working together to create a sustainable future and be a strong presence at the Mexico Climate meeting
- Work with schools and universities to use and develop this tool

"It is possible to develop a sustainable future for this planet but it needs all of us to get involved.” “What I learned is…….not to underestimate the power of the voices and actionsExperiences of public health action and learning for climate change, contributed to the site by participants. of ordinary people. I strongly believe in the decency of ordinary men and women in rich and poor countries who all care about their children, and their grandchildren, and children in their families. I think when they put the pictures of those kids in front of them and think what kind of planet are we going to give them, I hope people will rise above whatever short-term economic and other interests they might have."
