Frequently Asked Questions

Create a new connection when you would like to encourage collaboration and debate on a particular theme not covered by existing connections. The choice of theme is up to you, but should relate in some way to both public health and climate change. Try to make your connection welcoming to anyone who would like to participate, including those not normally involved in your chosen topic.

The health determinants tags are from a diagram - "The determinants of health and wellbeing in our neighbourhoods" by H Barton and M Grant (see http://www.theclimateconnection.org/determinants-health-and-wellbeing-ou...).

The health priorities tags are made up of the six national priorities for action listed in the 2004 “Choosing Health” White Paper, as well as some international issues taken from the WHO Global Burden of Disease project.

The public health competences are the nine framework areas of the Public Health Skills and Careers Framework.

The mitigation tags are taken from the Fourth Assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (ref: IPCC, 2007: Summary for Policymakers. Mitigation. Contribution of Working Group III.), with the addition of "Energy consumption" and "Goods and services consumption" because of the importance of addressing consumer demand as component of mitigation strategies.

The resilience tags refer to the climate impacts identified by the HPA and DH in “Health Effects of Climate Change in the UK 2008”, and those covered by the WHO study into global burden of disease from climate change (ref: "Comparative Quantification of Health Risks: Global and Regional Burden of Disease Attributable to Selected Major Risk Factors", by Majid Ezzati, World Health Organization 2004 - chapter 20)
