ParkCity Conference

Tuesday, 24 March, 2009 - 09:30 - Wednesday, 25 March, 2009 - 16:30

ParkCity is a two-day conference sponsored by CABE and Natural England, the Government’s advisors on urban design and the natural environment.

The conference will focus on the central role of green infrastructure in creating the most successful towns and cities of the future.

ParkCity is designed to galvanise a public debate about how we can create places which co-exist with the natural environment, instead of developing in conflict with it.

The idea of green assets rarely features outside the green ghetto. This has to change. They need to be part of our strategic thinking about economic regeneration, public health and community cohesion, new housing, climate change adaptation and alternative transport and energy solutions.

International speakers including foremost green infrastructure expert Edward T McMahon; world renowned architect and designer William McDonough, co-author of Cradle to Cradle and Majora Carter, activist and founder of Sustainable South Bronx will share their experiences at the conference.

Dr Dieter Salomon, Mayor of Freiburg; Sir Bob Kerslake, chief executive, Homes and Communities Agency; and George Hargreaves, lead design of the new Olympic Park for London 2012 will also be speaking. Rt Hon Margaret Beckett MP, Minister of State for Housing and Planning will give a ministerial address. The conference will be chaired by John Vidal, environment editor of The Guardian. There will also be a choice of fascinating site visits within London.
